“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about MANY things, but few things are needed—or indeed ONLY ONE. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:41-42
.
What was Mary doing? She was SITTING at Jesus’ feet and LISTENING to what he was saying. (v. 39)
.
This is not so easy to do in today’s world. We live in a society that encourages productivity but somehow undermines the importance of rest...a chance to sit. “Busyness” has become our idol—(insert hashtag teamnosleep, etc.)—and while productivity is not wrong, let’s be sure that our focus on it has not taken our focus off of what’s (or who’s) MOST important. (In short, be productive but don’t be too busy for Jesus.)
.
I want to tell the one who is feeling tired, overwhelmed, or frustrated that your strength, peace, and joy will come through rest—or the sitting, in his presence. Jesus calls this use of time “better” or “good”. It is when we sit, that we are better able to listen and hear clearly to know what He is telling us.
Stay Encouraged y’all ❤️
